So the question of the week is....
"Present your opinion on "New Media ethics" in a new media form, use a real life examples of an organization that has conducted an unethical activity in New Media"
So lets talk about ethics first.. Ethics is a term which describe the idea of right and wrong in humans' motive. Ethics defines morale, society norms and differ from laws and legal action. Ethics acts like a guideline in a society which people can follow the norms or patterns that they long value. So the motives and thinking are traditionally accepted by the eye of public. Different culture and geographic has a different ethics, which means one culture ethics doesn't apply to all other culture. It does sounds like culture, but it is ethics, more towards the motivation based on ideas of right and wrong. Or it can be said as philosophical moral values and rules.
So there are many businesses outside the world that could be unethical. In terms of copyrighting, defamation, and many more. Very often, all these happened on advertisements A LOT! Not in Malaysia, because Malaysia is kinda chinese oreinted kind of behavior where our action is very limited and controlled. So we tend to act carefully when deciding something what to be published. But organization conducting unethical activity in New Media is very rare, we can only see dumb employee who couldn't control their hatred towards customers and use company's social media to make unofficial and stupid announcement. But those were employee's individual bad behavior which lower the company reputation.
There are still many business that are unethical on new media, I am not talking about single employee who do stupid things now, but the entire department and the company. I still recall a commercial from USA where soft-drinks advertisement are fighting so hard against each other. Yes I am talking about CocaCola versus Pepsi, which Pepsi was positioning itself as the more popular soft drink over Coke.
Normally, the one that is 'top of mind' is the one that sells more, but
apparently, in that ad, it's strictly a popularity contest, a challenge
of tastes as it were. Yeah this ad was banned officially on TV commercial. But yet thosse content were still exposed to the internet which makes Pepsi to be the super bad guy now. Pepsi really did a very negative action on defaming Coke back then.
The commercial was one guy stepping on the CocaCola can just to get his pepsi drink, as simple as that but it humiliated the brand of CocaCola. It can be very unethical on publishing such unhealthy , unethical idea of ad to the public.
:) yess.....

B2B? B2C?
What is a B2B what is a B2C?
Let me start with the B2B first.
B2B
This terms refers to "business to business"
This terms refers to "business to business"
It describes the process of "transection" that comes from between businesses ONLY. Typically everything involves purchasing is already a business. But B2B is describing the business relation between manufacturer and a wholesaler, or between a wholesaler and a retailer but not to consumers.
And the process is much more complex than B2C. In B2B process, we can see business men dealing with another business men where items are mostly categorized assets rather than daily product. Such as machinery like photostate machine, vehicles (van), stock and more.
On the other hand, B2C means business to consumers. Which describes business men that sell products to the end user consumers. Items sold are normally daily goods product.
As an example for the whole picture.
B2B is where retailers purchase 2sets of photostate machine from wholesaler, then the photosate machines will work for the retailer. These assets produce photocopy that will provide services for consumers. This is how the business works.
A further explaination can be explained through this table, which I found very useful, it talks about marketing, relationship, and the innovation.
It is a very good summary :)
Differences between B2B and B2C marketing
| B2B | B2C |
| Relationship driven | Product driven |
| Maximize the value of the relationship | Maximize the value of the transaction |
| Multi-step buying process, longer sales cycle | Single step buying process, shorter sales cycle |
| Brand identity created on personal relationship | Brand identity created through repetition and imagery |
| Educational and awareness building activities | Merchandising and point of purchase activities |
| Rational buying decision based on business value | Emotional buying decision based on status, desire, or price |
Differences between B2B and B2C customers
| B2B buyer | B2C buyer |
| often understands your product/service better than you do | looking for the best price |
| wants or needs to buy products or services to help their company stay profitable, competitive, and successful | often looks for trusted brands |
| has high interest in – and understanding of – your product | will research the competition prior to shopping |
| interested in quality customer service | interested in quality customer service |
B2B and B2C Customer Service innovations
| from B2B to B2C | From B2C to B2B |
| provide value-based service | add human touch when automate online interactions |
| promise service levels and deliver on them | Exploit consumer-centric interaction channels and rich media |
| take a process-centric approach to customer service, allowing seamless and trackable collaboration | generate revenue from marketing and sales through POS (point of service) captive marketing |
| digitize and integrate paper-based communications | maximize customer service RAS (reliability, availability, and scalability) |

Going Viral like a virus
Trust me.. I tried to do a video on this "Going Viral" topic, but it was so hard to shot a short clip when your roommate is around. Secondly, I bet you have no idea how incredible is the WiFi connection in here. Life in hostel is like that lorh.. what to expect.. So ended up didn't manage to do a video again.. But hey!! This is the fail part when I was rehearsing... Even uploading this video took me 2hours.. great...
So here goes the topic..
Going Viral and provide a real life example based on myyyy opinion.
Alright so going viral simply means that things are spreading which also means that my assumption was right. I hooked up into the dictionary and found this.
The "Viral" term comes from the word "Virus" which explains the idea of virus is "spreading"
So we are talking about media going viral, best to be explained is to use Youtube as a channel to be the example. The reason for choosing Youtube is because it has counts and numbers of viewers/subscribers or likers. Plus Youtube is one of the most used video channel worldwide-ly.
Most importantly, all these allows the Youtuber(guy who post video) to make evaluation on his video, knowing how many person like or dislike, how many person shared his video, how many person actually view the particular video. All of these can make counts which means that the more the view, the more the "going viral" begins.
And firstly, how does it gone viral?
I believe that it is a basic concept from public relations - how to make news values.
I believe that it is a basic concept from public relations - how to make news values.
With the 7 elements (7 is what I had learn la) - Unusualness, proximity, prominence, timeliness, conflict, newness, significance. And the number 8 human interest.
Although this news value only apply to "NEWS" only, but it is kinda practical. It can be for games or others too.
These elements are what grab attention from the audience and make things spread from one audience to ten, hundred to thousand and to million and million more.
Secondly, we look at the elements in the video. Yeah this time is not news value, but "video value".
Time taken - The duration of video could lead to a factor that making internet video gone viral.
Trending - Ofcause we are looking for something that is trending in the social network, generation. I believe that Marilyn Monroe video is no longer a trend comparing to MileyCyrus. To attract viewers, we have to know what is happening in the world.
And the rest is pretty much covered by the "news value"
This is the selected video for my example "Wrecking BALL" from MileyCyrus
Well this video was published on 9 Sep 2013. For the current count, it has 536,396,802 views all over the world and with 2,036,483 thumbs up plus 983,066 dislikes.
And why is that so many counts? I will explain the reason based on those elements.
First MileyCyrus used to be famous...well she is still famous now.. But she was already kinda famous before wrecking balls! Her "Party In the USA" song was one of the hitz on radio. Not to forget she was a disney girl when she was younger. All these factor makes her a celebrity, which means = PROMINENCE.
And I could say that this is a UNUSUALNESS and HUMAN INTEREST which leads to CONFLICT! The reason I said so is because this is really a very unusual movie video which creates interest for boys and girls. Miley was actually singing a good song but..she moves like a jagger(unusualness) makes people horny(interesting) , some angry(conflict). With a movie view which consist of inappropriate screen is very unusual.. Some (parents) gets angry because of the ethical issue, she as a celebrity will influence the young one to follow as well. Standard MV with a 3:43 minutes, get 500millions attention. And not to forget both youtube and facebook have the sharing power, these new media's ability allows the video spread even faster. This is how things gone viral. Grabbing people's attention with something....hmm..
EVEN the parody version get 100million views.
Hope you enjoy it :) time to sleep~

Mobile Application
Today would be the typing day for Sherman since today I am in a typing mood.
Alrighty lets come back to the main subject.
So today I would be focusing on Mobile application in bringing communication and how it brings benefits to a company?
I chose GSC - also known as Golden Screen Cinema
Target
audience
Basically this application is designed for movie lovers who would like to know what movies are screening daily. Cinema not only provide one type a genre to audience, not only adult but children as well. So the target audience is pretty much those who seek for entertainment, movie lovers, and.. yes basically everyone who has a smartphone device because there's not really a specific audience to target. Since smartphone devices are so universal now in malaysia, I don't think that youngster, couples is no longer the only target audience.
Objective
This application designed to enhance the effectiveness of ticket booking process. In the smartphones Era, mobile application is very demanding for a company to produce efficiency and effectiveness for both customers and the organization. In another way, GSC application not only speed up the process of booking ticket, it also helps to make profit.
In another way, it could be said that this application too helps to save some paper and printing budget on printing the tickets, since the application has a "Bar Code Scanner" function.
Function
1. Booking ticket - Allows customers to place order on application first, then only conduct the payment at the Cinema counter
2. Purchasing ticket - It encourages customers to use credit card as their payment in order to get "special seats" and promotional stuff (for example like GOLD CLASS, or buy 2 free 1 ticket, buy couples seats free pop corn)
3. Time - It saves a lot of time for customers to inquire movie screening time at the counter or QUE, this app shows the information of the movie (how long is this movie, what movie is available is respective GSC) and screening time.
Linkage
Linkage is when a person uses this application, it constantly remind him/her that things that they do is anyhow related to the company. Due to the fact that GSC is the leading cinema company in Malaysia, it is believed that the GSC performance is better than other Cinema in terms of technology, environment and numbers of outlet.
The movies are the linkage that indirectly highlighted GSC. If I wasn't, some Cinema company doesn't offer any 3D technology, or SOME movies are not available in other cinema. However, what I am trying to say is, GSC has the unique way to sell movies which reminds people that "OH, GSC has it ONLY", "Oh this movie is only available in GSC".
Measurement
of results
What happens in the internet stays in the internet?
Yes of cause the evaluation is partly calculated by the rates of download and the review on the AppStore or PlayStore.
The second part to measure such result is through the view of a particular movies on how many people using this app to make booking
And the sales of the cinema, as application accelerated all the purchasing, booking, inquiry process.
